A new paper, titled A framework for infrastructuring sustainable innovations in education has been published online in Journal of the Learning Sciences.

The 2nd GenAI-KB Design Jam is launched! This virtual event aims to create innovative solutions to the challenges faced in KB classrooms. It will continue into June 2024 and is co-facilitated by Lydia Cao (University of Toronto), Xinran Zhu (UPenn), and Bodong Chen (UPenn).

A new paper, titled Understanding Idea Creation in Collaborative Discourse Through Networks: The Joint Attention–Interaction–Creation (AIC) Framework was presented at the 2023 Annual Meeting of the International Society of the Learning Sciences (ISLS) in Montreal.

Xinran Zhu, Ph.D. candidate, has received a research grant from Social Science Research Council (supported by The Summer Institutes in Computational Social Science), as a co-PI. The awarded project aims to examine factors that drive inter-institutional collaboration in the field of computational social science towards knowledge advancement, by constructing collaboration networks and investigating longitudinal network evolution via network modeling.

A study by Learning Technologies PhD students Xinran Zhu and Hong Shui won the Best Student Paper Award at the 29th International Conference on Computers in Education. The work, “Designing Support for Productive Social Interaction and Knowledge Co-construction in Collaborative Annotation,” was also nominated for the Best Research Paper Award category. The study, part of the Collaborative Annotation in College Classrooms Project, has practical implications for online teaching and collaborative learning. Read more.

Bodong Chen received a Teaching Innovation grant from TeachingSupport @UMN. This grant, titled “Enriching an Online Course with Interactive Web Content and Learning Analytics,” will seek to integrate H5P, xAPI, and analytics in open courses he has been building.

Bodong Chen presented on a panel titled “Annotation as Infrastructure for Next Generation Digital Learning Environments” (slides), at the 2018 EDUCAUSE Annual Conference in Denver, CO.

Yu-Hui Chang and David Groos attended the 2018 Knowledge Building Summer Institute in Toronto, Canada and presented their work on knowledge building in teacher education and high science science. Bodong Chen attended virtually to facilitate a knowledge building analytics symposium.

Bodong Chen led a tutorial on Social Media Mining at the 2018 Learning Analytics Summer Institute, co-hosted by NYU and Colombia Univresity.

Bodong Chen attended the I Annotate conference in San Francisco and presented work related to the IdeaMagnets project.

Bodong attended the 7th mEducation Alliance Symposium in Washington DC and presented his work on learning analytics and MOOCs.
